Three Rising
Stars
Every month
we sign up new foundries who provide new, innovative fonts. In this
16th issue of Rising Stars, we want to show you three
of our top-selling new fonts.
Fligerish is a fancy and romantic font that lends itself well
to invitations and scrapbooking. The font is kind of curly and swirly,
but tries very hard not to overdo it!
Archive
Garfield is an inline, shaded display typeface, great for newsletters
and posters. It has the feel of antique typefaces found in old prints
and books.
Candy
Round is part of the classic Candy family, which also includes
Candy Square and Candy Buzz. Candy is a perfect display typeface
for any use, even at small sizes.

Focus on Design
Trends: Spirit of the Wild West
Founded
in 2000, FontMesa
has specialized in creating type styles of the old west and fonts
for sign lettering. Some fonts are classic Italian and French revivals
with new lowercase letters added, while others were created from
small samples of letters found on old documents, which were never
intended to be complete fonts.
FontMesa
continues to research old, long lost typefaces from the 1800s, reviving
them in the digital world where they will never be forgotten. Two
new releases are Wanderer
and Mesa
Pointe.
|
|
|
Many
FontMesa fonts are available as “fill fonts.” For example,
Wanderer is available as a stand-alone font but also includes optional
fill fonts. These kinds of fonts can be used to fill in the areas
of decorative fonts. You can use fill fonts in graphics and illustration
applications that support layers, such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator,
CorelDRAW, and Paint Shop Pro.
|
|
|
Other FontMesa
fonts that capture the spirit of the wild west and also have optional
fill fonts include Saloon Girl and Rodeo Roundup:

Follow-Up
Last
month we featured Chato
Band as one of our three Rising Stars. Currently #11 on the
Best Sellers
list, Chato Band is a cursive script font with slight imperfections
between characters and unique ink-drawn and vector elements. It
comes in 3 families: Chato Band Regular (with the inked look), Smooth
(a clean version), and Space (a hybrid design).
