About the family

Some typefaces survive because they were beautiful. Others because they were simply there — at the right moment, on the right page. MuseFace was found in a Budapest printing specimen book from around 1901, listed as Művészbetű — “Artist’s Letter.” No designer credited, no foundry fame. Like many display faces circulating in Budapest at the turn of the century, it most likely arrived from German-speaking type foundries, where Jugendstil ornamental lettering was at its peak. A single display face sitting at the edge of two eras: after the flowing ornament of Secession, before the clean geometry of Art Deco. Transitional, slightly raw, unapologetically decorative. Not a pretty typeface. But an honest one — a document of a moment when Central European print culture was feeling its way toward something new. Digitized by Amondó Szegi and released through T-26.

About T-26

T26 Digital Type Foundry was established by Carlos and Sun Segura in 1994 to promote independent type design development and distribution. With award-winning promotional designs by its parent company Segura Inc., T26 has maintained its relevance with a dedication to the broader integration of typography with graphic design, fine art, and popular visual culture.Carlos had come from an 11-year career as Art Director, Creative Director, and Designer at many of the top advertising agencies in the country, and along with Sun Segura had already been running the Segura Design firm in Chicago since early 1991. This presented an opportunity to further the procedures, policies, and concepts which led to the initial creation of the T26 Digital Type Foundry.
