Über die Familie

Brazarri Pro AOE revives one of the more unusual curiosities of nineteenth-century type design. The alphabet traces its lineage to the eccentric “Bizarre” typeface produced by MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan in 1884, a design that challenged conventional letter construction through sharp geometry and unconventional stroke intersections. Preserved and expanded within the Astigmatic Institute’s Historical Revival Archive, Brazarri Pro transforms this rare typographic specimen into a fully developed contemporary font family. The letterforms retain the distinctive angular geometry that made the original design so striking while introducing a comprehensive modern character set that supports extended languages, fractions, ordinals, smallcaps, and professional figure styles. The result is a historical revival that remains faithful to its roots while offering designers far greater flexibility than the original metal type ever allowed. Brazarri Pro works beautifully in editorial design, poster typography, decorative branding, and historical themed graphics where unusual letterforms create immediate visual interest. Its distinctive geometry also lends itself well to custom lettering experiments, making it a fascinating tool for designers who enjoy pushing typographic forms in unexpected directions.

Über Astigmatic

In 1873, the strange and fantastic story began. Nearly two centuries later, Brian J. Bonislawsky was born, and carrying on a mix of the the footsteps his ancestors before him took, he picked up the the traditions and founded the Astigmatic One Eye Foundry, which later expanded to become the Astigmatic One Eye Typographic Institute. (For more of the background story, see the Historical Perspective link below.) Since its founding Astigmatic has worked with dozens of designers, helping them forge their own foundries as well as helping to increase the quality of type created by Astigmatic and these other foundries. Astigmatic strives to continually increase its range of typographic scope; taking on expeditions to revive old typestyles, unearth long lost typefaces, forge new styles yet unseen, and begin to develop more comprehensive language typestyles of the WGL4 set size which includes Greek and Cyrillic extensions. If you are looking for a wide variety of typographic influence and style, the Astigmatic One Eye Institute is your source for type.
