Q1: Where did the idea for the typeface come from? Did you set out to address a specific use or suite of the application? Was this a design you’d had in mind for a while?

Ans: I have been fascinated by the idealistic and distinctive formal language of geometric typefaces ever since I began working with typography. To find a balance, between a strong character for display applications and a good legibility for longer texts, can be a challenge with a geometric typeface. I tried to meet exactly this challenge and made sure that the deduction from basic shapes is still noticeable even with optical corrections applied where necessary. It seems this approach is well received, and I am excited to see the font being used for a variety of purposes – and in different fields!

Q2: What is the one or two most important things graphic communicators should know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better design?

Ans: Thanks to the OpenType features provided, fonts of Serpentype contain alternate shapes for selected characters in addition to the original shape. These alternates can be combined and accessed through the practical and powerful stylistic sets, which allow adapting the appearance of the typeface to each design. If, for example, the pointed shapes are too sharp, they can be softened with the respective stylistic sets activated to achieve a calmer overall impression.
