#09 PG Gothique by Paulo Goode
Q1: Where did the idea for the typeface come from? Did you set out to address a specific use or suite of the application? Was this a design you’d had in mind for a while?
Ans: In my previous career as a graphic designer, one of my ‘go to’ typefaces was Trade Gothic. As a type designer, I have always wanted to emulate Morris Fuller Benton’s designs and create my own solid, reliable type family so that you can have total confidence when setting your type. I managed to achieve my goals and then some… creating a comprehensive typeface that spans 99 fonts while offering great value to type users on a limited budget.
Q2: What should graphic communicators know about the typeface, or how will the family of fonts help them create better designs?
Ans: The design process for PG Gothique was meticulous, and it had to be. I wanted to deliver the most expansive gothic type family while also being available as a single variable font. Have you tried variable fonts yet? I believe this is one family that may convert you. There are 99 default instances across weight, width, and italic axes and variable sliders allow you to choose any increment in between. Without doubt, this is one to steal type perfectionists’ hearts!
