Binny & Ronaldson
The first significant American type foundry. Founded in Philadelphia in 1796 by the Scots Archibald Binny and James Ronaldson. Acquired by Johnson & Smith 1833, became L. Johnson & Co. in 1843, and finally MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan in 1867. The company was the largest typefounding business in America when in 1892 it was amalgamated with many others into ATF.
