Cindy Kinash started her foundry,
Cultivated Mind, in January of 2012, having decided that after many years of working in apparel graphic design, it was time to apply her skills to creating her own brand of typography. “I think that what makes my foundry unique is that I offer a lot of different styles of handmade typefaces,” she says. “Cultivated Mind doesn’t have one distinct style, as it is constantly evolving and trying to release fonts that you haven’t seen before.”
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, she released her first font,
Hello I Like You, in 2012. Since then, Cindy’s foundry has produced over 20 typefaces; several of which have topped the Best Sellers list. Luckily, she hasn’t had to do all of that work alone. Finding inspiration in working with other type designers, she collaborated with
Charles Gibbons on
True North: one of her most successful designs to date. True North has been a bestseller at MyFonts and topped our Hot New Fonts list upon its release in the summer of 2014.
A few of Cindy’s other popular designs, including
Pacific Northwest,
Wanderlust Letters and
Wanderlust Collection, were created using a paintbrush, offering the typefaces a truly handmade, personalized feel.
Cindy says that fans of her foundry have a lot to look forward to in the future, including more collaborations with other talented type designers and lettering artists. “Cultivated Mind will produce a new variety of fonts you haven’t seen before,” she says. “We will offer fonts with more alternate letters so that customers can create their own unique hand lettered look.”
