Fine printer who worked with
William Morris at the Kelmscott Press, then in 1900 co-founded the Doves Press with
T.J. Cobden-Sanderson. Walker drew the revival of
Jenson’s types, which were then cut by
Edward Prince. He left the Doves Press in 1909.
He was engaged by
Harry Kessler to produce type for the Cranach Presse in Weimar. Walker commissioned
Percy Tiffin and (again) the highly-regarded Prince. With the accompanying
Tagliente-based italic, the project ran into serious difficulties and the mediocre design remained unfinished until after Prince’s death.
