Erik Adigard is a founder of M-A-D, an interdisciplinary design firm engaged in the exploration of the changing dynamics between technology, culture and communication design. After producing visual essays for various magazines, most notably Wired magazine in the 1990s, Adigard joined Wired Digital as Design Director to explore new design opportunities in web media. He designed the Hotbot search engine, WiredNews.com and a series of innovative interfaces such as LiveWired. Other projects include Architecture Must Burn, co-authored with Aaron Betsky, the short documentary, Webdreamer, and the branding of IBM software. More recently Adigard conceived a 500-piece exhibit for Experimentadesign, the Lisbon Biennale as well as a large media installation for the Venice Architecture Biennale. Aside from corporate communications, Adigard routinely takes on teaching or writing assignments as well as commissions from art and design institutions. Adigard's creations have been shown in international exhibits and film festivals as well as in publications world-wide. Among his many awards, he received the Chrysler Award for Innovation in Design.
