Johannes’ background lies in interface design and development, and is rooted in digital design and typesetting. Since 2015 type design is his main occupation, drawing on previous experience for inspiration and ideas for new font designs. Since 2018 he runs type foundry and design consultancy Underscore from Helsinki, Finland. As designer his commitment is to quality fonts designed with purpose and stylistic integrity.
His debut typeface Silta is the outcome of a master’s research project into legibility in interface typesetting. Subsequent releases include Jozef, a study and modern serif typeface family, and the elegant geometric typeface system Quell.
