About Narm Font Family

Narm (نرم, Soft) constitutes the complementary font family to narma, encompassing five distinct styles. The initial two styles, narm regular and narm LP, adhere to the traditional Arabic conjoint font styles. Furthermore, the configuration of the capital (isolated) letters has been adjusted to engender a more consistent visual appeal.

The narm LP (Less Point) denotes the only dot-reduced style in this font family, wherein glyphs containing two or more dots are substituted with new dotless shapes.

The narm MC (Mixed Case) mimics Latin fonts, allowing typists to select between lowercase (Initial) and uppercase (Isolated) letters using a software shift key. The software shift feature can be turn on/off by hitting two consequent Alef_Hamza_above/Alef_Hamza_below letters. more…

The last two styles are Small Caps (narm SC) and All Caps (narm AC) versions of this font family.

About Fakharia

Like language, scripting is a living thing and is subject to evolution. The more it adapts to its surrounding environment, the more chance it has to survive. Font designing is today's tool to fulfill this process.Latin script adapts well to today's digital world with over 72000 fonts. Unfortunately, the Peso-Arabic script Locks itself in the traditional box (calligraphy rules) and remains far behind with just over 500 fonts.I tried to unlock this box to make the Perso-Arabic script more compatible with today's digital world. To this extent, I developed a new writing system and designed a set of different typeface fonts for this system to let the Perso-Arabic script shine better.
