In early days of his career as a designer Philip Lammert was fascinated by the details in typography: typefaces and how they differentiate. Driven by the question “what makes a good typeface“ he began to understand where all these shapes came from and how they fit together to form a coherent typeface. What mostly attracted his attention were the designs that still combine contradictions or those that are idiosyncratic. Selecting fonts as a typographer did not satisfy him anymore and he began to design his own ones.
Philip studied design in Hamburg, Guatemala City and Düsseldorf. His interest in brands lead him to experience in various corporate design agencies. He studied for a master’s degree at the HAW Hamburg with a focus on type design being supervised by Prof. Jovica Veljovic. Today Philip works full-time as a type designer in Hamburg.
