About Sfax Font Family

Sfax is a sans serif font composed of 421 glyphs. During the design phase, an attempt was made to combine the geometric construction of the letters with motifs that vaguely recall the forms or styles of Islamic architecture, while maintaining the identity of European glyphs, the readability and functionality of a contemporary font. The graphic characteristics of the individual letters are reminiscent of ancient calligraphy: in fact, the 45° cuts in the ascenders or descenders echo the graphic traits of handwriting performed with a quill and enhance the expressiveness of the font. However, regardless of all this, Sfax can be used for any design: logos, branding, packaging and many other graphic expressions. It was decided to design only lowercase letters. Sfax is a font with strong contrast and a simple and essential design; the negative spaces within the letters, and between the letters, can be exploited during the graphic processing phase to form intricate patterns. In kerning, letters are often connected to each other, promoting a harmonious flow of text in order to convey a sense of continuity. Alternative glyphs are included in the font.
