Type is everywhere—I have always had a fascination with it. As a kid, I did work experience at sign writers, and I loved it. For ages, I kept telling people, “See that sign. I did that”.
I’ve spent 20 years working in the design industry and was a web designer by trade. But got tired of the rat race. So I stopped doing things I didn’t want to do—and started doing things that I did want to do—more creative things.
I tend to create my fonts from ink and paper or other traditional techniques like linocuts. I often experiment with different mediums and brushes, pushing the envelope of what is possible. I aim to make a font that doesn’t look like a font. That could be with texture or with realistic-looking paint marks.
