Taimur Hyat is formally trained as a PhD in Economics, but has spent the last decade deeply immersed in type design and typography. This includes typeface design classes at Cooper Union, as well as seven years of intensive training and mentorship with Hannes Famira, a graphic designer, a type designer and a teacher of both disciplines. Taimur works primarily in Robofont, with the inspiration and origins of each typeface and glyph focused on maintaining the integrity and fidelity to the underlying calligraphic instrument.
Taimur's somewhat obsessive attention to detail and the subtle nuances of each glyph means that each new typeface is a multi-year process of trail-and-error on the path to perfectionism, with a dedication to creating complete writing systems across multiple languages and styles. Taimur finds inspiration in 16th century humanist typefaces but offers a modern, cleaner, streamlined interpretation, particularly in creating numerals, characters and italics that blend seamlessly into the typeface family.
Taimur has worked with leading marketing organizations for a decade and deeply understands the requirement from a brand, customer experience and readability perspective.
In his spare time, Taimur loves to cook, play squash and travel.
