I graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in editorial art, psychology, and philosophy. I started a freelance illustration business and later on became employed by a card company in Kansas City to work in their font development group. I worked my way up to the position of Alphabet Designer and spent the best part of my career there designing type. I have studied and practiced calligraphy but I am not a calligrapher, myself. I come at type design from the angle of an illustrator. I prefer to draw letter forms rather than pen them.
