Victor Gaultney was trained in theatrical arts at the Children’s Theatre Company (1975–1977). In 1984 he received a BA in Liberal Arts (in Mathematics and in Music of the Medieval and Renaissance Era) from St Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota. In 2002 he completed an MA in Typeface Design at the
University of Reading, England. He has studied lettering and design with
Gerard Unger,
Gerry Leonidas and
Michael Harvey.
Since 1991 he has served as a Type Designer with
SIL International, specializing in non-Latin script typefaces. Gentium is his first original Latin design and was a winner in both the bukva:raz! (2002) and Type Directors Club (2003) international type design competitions.
