Wayne Stettler (December 10, 1934 - May 29, 2011) was born in Allentown, PA. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art in 1956, majoring in advertising design. After working as a designer with the U.S. Army for two years, he became the design director for Smith, Kline & French Laboratories (now GlaxoSmithKline), where he oversaw the design of packaging and collateral for pharmaceutical companies for more than fifteen years. In the late 1970s he ran his own design studio in Philadelphia, designing packaging and sales displays for drug and cosmetic clients. Stettler's popular Typositor-era typeface Neil Bold won the International Typeface Design Competition in 1966, and his paintings have been exhibited at many galleries and exhibits during the 1980s and 1990s.
