Will Hill (B. Tokyo 1954) is a typographer, designer, educator and visual artist with a background in graphic design and illustration, whose work is concerned with type, letters and the visual properties of language. Much of this work deals with the typography of environment and architecture. He has recently collaborated with sculptor Harry Gray on the artwork Discover and Acquire for Clare College, Cambridge and the Romsey R, a major sculptural commission for Cambridge council. As an authority on typography and typeface design he is the author of The Complete Typographer (Thames and Hudson 2010), co-author of Art and Text (Black Dog 2011), and contributor to the Phaidon Compendium of Graphic Design (2012) and the Routledge Handbook of the English Writing System (2017). In 2012 he curated the exhibition Types for the New Century, which toured venues in the UK and Europe. He has given numerous papers at international type conferences, including ATypI and Typecon. He is Associate Professor at Anglia Ruskin University, where he leads the MA in Graphic Design and Typography, and where he co-curated the exhibition Graphic Constellations: visual poetry and the properties of space (Ruskin Gallery, Cambridge 2015). He holds an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading.
