John Bell. He came to prominence as a result of being chosen by George Nicol, bookseller to King George III, to produce a major new edition of Shakespeare.

Thomas Bewick was a childhood friend; Bulmer printed much of the artist’s work with the high degree of skill necessary for the products of Bewick’s new engraving technique.
