Berthold Wolpe designed Albertus from 1932 to 1940, with Albertus Titling being released first, and the lowercase a few years later. Hiroshige was designed in 1986 by Cynthia Hollandsworth of AlphaOmega Typography, Inc. The typeface was originally commissioned for a book of woodblock prints by the great nineteenth-century Japanese artist Ando Hiroshige, whose work influenced many Impressionist artists.
