SST Alternatives

Originally designed in partnership with the global consumer electronics brand, Sony, the SST® typeface family is an exceptionally comprehensive and remarkably versatile design. Built on solid typographic traditions with the goal of enduring for decades, the design combines an organic readability with a controlled persona. These attributes combine to give SST a balance of legibility and usability in a wide range of environments. The typeface is easy to read in a variety of sizes on small digital screens, as well as at sizes large enough for digital billboards and wayfinding.
Multi-lingual development was a critical design goal from the beginning. To develop its support of almost 100 languages, Monotype turned to its network of local designers around the world for their individual expertise. These designers followed the lead and guidance of Akira Kobayashi, Monotype type director and lead designer on the project, to ensure the details were correct and consistent across all languages.
