Inspired by the handwriting of Pope John Paul II: JP2
Francizek Otto began the project that led to the JP2™ typeface after being inspired by an autographed and blessed photograph of Pope John Paul II. Since the late John Paul II (born Karol Józef Wojtyła) was education in Poland’s interwar period, his handwriting had the feeling of that era. It was also influenced by the writing instrument used, a fountain pen. The resolute shapes and dynamics of his handwriting’s letterforms illustrated the great dexterity of his hand.
The JP2 typeface is a kind of homage to the Polish pope. Through his life and teachings, he inspired a whole an entire era, dubbed the JP2 generation, to spread goodness and love throughout the world. Francizek Otto hopes that the JP2 typeface will only be used as a vehicle for noble purposes.
This typeface works well for short passages of texts that should appear to imitate handwriting.
