Koorkin

George Ryan prepared the initial designs for Koorkin™ many years ago as a commission for a client. The project never came to fruition and his concepts for the branding of new products together with the typeface itself were put away in a drawer to gather dust. Some 15 years later, Ryan decided to retrieve these, reworked his designs and developed the typeface into a complete family.

The forms of Koorkin are derived from apparently hastily handwritten block capitals and are constructed as a rule from a single line only. Variants in line width, of the kind that would be produced by a soft felt-tip pen, give the clearly legible letters an additional dynamism.

Extended line terminals add to the informal character of this font that nonetheless never seems facetious or childish. In addition to the standard ligatures, there are also double character ligatures, such as ‘mm’, ‘nn’ and ‘ck’, which are available as OpenType features and ensure that adequate diversity can be achieved in text set using Koorkin.

Koorkin is available in the two weights ‘Regular’ and ‘Bold’. Both these variants have corresponding Italic versions with slightly inclined characters that additionally contribute towards the dynamic, calligraphic nature of the typeface. As an OpenType-Pro font, Koorkin supports not only western European but also central European languages. The array of characters is supplemented by oldstyle and lining figures.

The very personal and original nature of Koorkin will undoubtedly win it a place in your (designer) heart. Use this contemporary font in headlines and short texts in situations in which a relaxed and more casual effect is required. As Koorkin is also available as a web font, you can use it not just for setting print products, but also to design web pages.
