Nimrod, the newspaper type, now with Greek and Cyrillic fonts!

Originally released by Monotype in 1980, Robin Nicholas’ Nimrod® is now a mature 30-year-old, and still going strong. Nimrod is the product of extensive research into newspapers’ needs and the demands peculiar to the industry. Used in numerous newspapers and books, this unfussy, highly legible suite of fonts first graced the pages of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, later going on to star in the UK’s Guardian newspaper and the Concise English Dictionary. Robert Nicholas has nurtured and expanded Nimrod into what is undoubtedly one of the world’s most versatile newspaper typefaces.

Although Nimrod shares features with other ionics dating all the way back to Mergenthaler Linotype’s seminal Ionic®, it has shed some of its fussier ornamentation instead seeking inspiration and sobriety from the earlier Old Style designs like Plantin®.

The newspaper industry and its production methods have changed considerably over the past three decades, and at every juncture, Nimrod has been ready to adapt to meet those changing demands. Following this tradition, we’re happy to announce that Nimrod has now been extended to support both Greek and Cyrillic across all weights and styles. This exceptionally legible thoroughbred of a newspaper typeface is now more versatile than ever.
