Sudtipos
In order to market their fonts, the four Argentinians Ale Paul, Ariel Garofalo, Claudio Pousada and Diego Giaccone founded the Sudtipos label in Buenos Aires. All four typographic artists share a passion for calligraphic fonts and Sudtipos has become renowned principally for its wide range of script fonts, many of which are also available with OpenType features.
The following is a selection of the more unusual fonts from the Sudtipos collection.
Affair
The basic font Affair by Ale Paul comes with abundant ligatures, swash variants and ornaments that ensure that it can be adapted to all design requirements.
Almond Script
A unique combination of an effect achieved with a worn old brush and modern Latin-American elegance.
Bellas Artes
Bellas Artes ingeniously employs the visual effects of the Art Deco era and is particularly suitable for use on packaging.
Bravissima Script
For this font, Angel Koziupa and Alejandro Paul took their inspiration from the unsophisticated brush scripts of the 1970s. This dynamic typeface has a range of characters that enable texts to be set in numerous languages, including those of Eastern Europe.
Cafelatte
The characters of Cafelatte have something of the unpolished nature of letters carved in wood about them.
Cenizas
Thanks to the sense of adventure and freedom emanated by this font, Cenizas is ideal for creating designs relating to outdoor and sporting activities.
Downtempo
Downtempo is one of the few sans-serif fonts in the Sudtipos portfolio. The letters of Downtempo, with their somewhat idiosyncratic forms, are available in four weights.
Grover Slab
Grover Slab is named for the jazz saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr. and although the letters may seem contrived, they articulate an inner vitality.
Hernandez
The extent of character variants provided for this typeface mean that designers can give every word its own cadence.
Kautiva
Kautiva is a contemporary sans-serif with genuine cursive, small caps and unicase variants. An ideal font for both text and headline purposes.
Koziupack
With its purposefully energetic arms and verticals, Koziupack is perfect for signage and magazine advertising.
Matogrosso Script
For Ale Paul, the fairly crude characters of Matogrosso Script are reminiscent of lettering on old maps or wine labels.
Milk Script
This font is derived from the forms used on hand-painted signs of the America of the 1920s and 1930s.
Miss Le Gatees
Mr Rafkin
Mr Donaldson
These three typefaces are part of the so-called ‘Charles Bluemlein Script Collection’, a range of retro types derived from the calligraphy of 1930s New York. Using signatures as a starting point, a whole alphabet of glyphs has been developed. The names are not those of actual persons, but have been invented.
While Miss Le Gatees and Mr Donaldson represent generous scripts written with a fine pen, Mr Rafkin has been produced with a broader nib and is more squat.
Politica
This extensively supported sans-serif, with its wide range of weights, is as diversified as contemporary political movements.
Reflex
Reflex was inspired by Bauhaus designs and conceived as a response to the overuse of certain fonts in packaging design and pop culture-related concepts.
Tanguera
Ale Paul sees the spirit of Argentinian Tango reproduced in the voluptuous lines of Tanguera. The letters are like dancers who at times are close and other times further apart, move in parallel or cross over, but always remain together.
Tiza
The letters of Tiza give the impression of have been written with a pen on a rough surface.
